Ralph L. Costen, Sr. founded Costen Floors with the commitment to provide quality, natural hardwood flooring and personalized, expert installation that would enhance the value of homes and business.
Marsha Costen, Ralph L. Costen Jr.’s wife, began working at Costen Floors full-time managing the books.
Ralph Jr. and his brother in law, Nick Rasnick, hired Marc Vest to sell carpet in local flea markets. It was the first time Costen Floors sold carpet.
Ralph Jr. and Nick created a sister company, American Floors, which specialized in carpet, vinyl and ceramic.
Costen merged the product lines and built a new showroom and warehouse in May, located at 9840 Mayland Drive in Richmond’s West End. The 30,000 square foot brick facility allows both residential and commercial customers to find a huge selection of hardwood, ceramic tile, laminate, carpet, vinyl, and marble in one convenient location.
Costen Floors expanded its wood warehouse and added 8,000 square feet of acclimated space. Costen Floors is the only flooring retailer with a fully acclimated warehouse.
The bottom line for Costen Floors is we have it all, wall to wall, when it comes to your flooring needs. Still family owned and operated, Costen Floors is committed to providing quality through every step of the flooring process-and backs this commitment with a level of personalized service that’s unmatched in the industry.
As Ralph L. Costen, Jr., says, “Our work is found in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the VCU Siegel Center, Quirk Hotel and thousands of homes around Richmond that are the personal showplaces for those particular customers. We have our family name and over 70 years of experience and reputation that stand behind our products and work. The secret of our success is in the value statement my father used to run this company and instilled in me: ‘Do quality work for a fair price and the customers will come.’ “
